What Things to Do in Vancouver in Winter
Vancouver winter activities split into three categories: outdoor mountain (ski day trips to Grouse, Cypress, or Mount Seymour 25 to 30 minutes from downtown, plus Whistler 2 hours up the Sea-to-Sky Highway), seasonal events (the Vancouver Christmas Market at Jack Poole Plaza late November through Christmas Eve, Bright Nights at Stanley Park, Capilano Canyon Lights), and indoor venues (Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver Aquarium, Science World, FlyOver Canada, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Orpheum, Rogers Arena hockey).

Vancouver Winter Day Trips
Grouse Mountain. 25-minute drive from downtown. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, the Peak of Christmas event in December. The Grouse Grind hiking trail is closed in winter but the Skyride gondola runs year-round.
Cypress Mountain. 30-minute drive. Larger ski terrain. Hosted the 2010 Olympics freestyle events.
Mount Seymour. 30-minute drive. Family-friendly skiing and tubing, generally the most beginner-friendly of the three.
Capilano Suspension Bridge Canyon Lights. 20-minute drive, with shuttle pick-up from downtown hotels. Bridge, forest, and cliff walk lit with millions of lights late November to late January.
Whistler Blackcomb. 2-hour drive on the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Major ski resort. Day trip works for keen skiers but a 2-3 day overnight is more typical.
For mountain conditions and prices, see Grouse Mountain, Cypress Mountain, and Mount Seymour.

Downtown Vancouver hotels work for winter activity trips when they have indoor pools (for the inevitable rain days), 24-hour fitness (for early ski-day departures), on-site dining (for late returns from hockey or theatre), and walking-distance to the indoor venues. Sutton Place, Sheraton Wall Centre, Pan Pacific, and Century Plaza all check most of these boxes.
Century Plaza Hotel at 1015 Burrard Street specifically: indoor heated pool open 8am to 10pm, 24-hour fitness center, on-site c prime restaurant and Beyond Coffee, all-suite layout with room for ski gear, and walking distance to most indoor winter venues.
